Quest & Metrosonics® Heat Stress
Monitors First to Receive ATEX Intrinsic Safety Approval.
Press Release, Oconomowoc, WI, April 21, 2004
Monitors protect industrial & service industry workers
and first responders to bioterrorism.
Quest Technologies Inc, an employee-owned world leader
in the development and manufacture of monitoring instrumentation and
software for occupational and environmental health & safety (OEHS)
applications, today announced that it’s QUESTemp° Series and Metrosonics
model HS-32 Portable Heat Stress Monitors have been independently tested
and certified by KEMA Quality B.V. of The Netherlands to meet the
requirements of ATEX Directive 94/9/EC. The QUESTemp° Series and HS-32
monitors are used to evaluate indoor and outdoor environmental conditions
for the potential to cause heat stress or heat-related injuries or
illnesses. In addition to industrial & service industry workers, first
responders to bioterrorism are very susceptible to heat stress as a
result of the chemical protective clothing they must wear. Quest is the
first and only company to achieve certification of heat stress monitors,
sometimes referred to as WBGT meters, to the new ATEX requirements. The
ATEX approvals are in addition to existing ETL approvals for intrinsic
safety. The ATEX directive has been adopted by the European Union (EU) to
facilitate free trade in the EU by aligning the technical and legal
requirements in the Member States for products intended for use in
potentially explosive atmospheres. The Directive covers electrical and
mechanical equipment and protective systems, which may be used in
potentially explosive atmospheres (flammable gases, vapors or dusts.)
Since July 1, 2003, it has been necessary for all products placed on the
market or put into use within the EU to comply with the ATEX Directive.
“This is the second time in less than a year that we
have been first to market with products meeting the new ATEX Directive,”
said Dan Webster, CEO & President of Quest Technologies. Late last year
we were also first to obtain certification of personal noise dosimeters
to this Directive and they remain the only such products with this
approval. Quest has always made it a priority that our products meet
applicable international standards for performance and safety. It seems
contradictory to us for users to spend dollars on products for worker
safety that are not themselves confirmed inherently safe. So wherever
possible, we make sure our customers have access to certified safe
products.”
The QUESTemp° Series and HS-32 monitor will be on
display at numerous trade shows this year around the world. See our
Events page for a complete
tradeshow listing.

Second Quest & Metrosonics®
Calibration Laboratory Receives Independent Accreditation.
Press Release, Oconomowoc, WI, April 21, 2004
Both authorized U.S. service centers now meet
requirements of ISO 17025 and ANSI Cal Lab Standards
Quest Technologies Inc, an employee-owned world leader
in the development and manufacture of monitoring instrumentation and
software for occupational and environmental health & safety (OEHS)
applications, today announced their Rochester (NY) Technical Center (RTC)
was accredited by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation
(A2LA) on April 13, 2004 for technical competence in the field of
calibration. RTC was determined to meet the requirements of ISO/IEC
17025-1999 “General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and
Calibration Laboratories” and ANSI/NCSL Z540-1-1994 “Calibration
Laboratories and Measuring and Test Equipment – General Requirements”.
“Our industry is plagued by opportunistic companies
lacking the training, competencies and credentials to provide calibration
services. Independent customer satisfaction surveys indicate our
customers choose Quest, in large part, because of the high quality and
reliability of our products. It goes hand-in-hand that high quality
products should be supported by high quality services. Our customers
spend substantial dollars each year collecting and analyzing exposure
data using our products. That data is used to protect the lives of
workers and control the liabilities of employers. That data can only be
as meaningful as it accurate, and claims of accuracy must be traceable to
standards that are meaningful. This accreditation confirms that customers
using our service centers for calibration will have the traceability they
need,” said Dan Webster, CEO & President of Quest Technologies.
Accredited calibration services are now available from
Quest at their Oconomowoc, WI and Rochester, NY facilities. Calibrations
can be arranged on-line or by phone.

Quest & Metrosonics® Noise
Dosimeters Receive MSHA Intrinsic Safety Approval.
Press Release, Oconomowoc, WI, April 21, 2004
First Dosimeters in World to Incorporate Exposure
Alarms -- Enables Administrative Control When Engineering Controls Are
Not Feasible.
Quest Technologies Inc, an employee-owned world leader
in the development and manufacture of monitoring instrumentation and
software for occupational and environmental health & safety (OEHS)
applications, today announced that it’s NoisePro™ Series and Metrosonics
model db-4000EZ Noise Dosimeters have been independently tested and
certified by the Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) to meet the
requirements of Title 30 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 18 and are
approved as permissible for use in gassy underground mines. The NoisePro
Series and db-4000EZ monitors are used to evaluate worker exposure to
harmful noise levels. Prior to the introduction of these new monitors in
October 2003, noise dosimeters were limited to measuring and reporting
accumulated noise exposure levels. Within the mining industry, feasible
engineering controls are often not available or cost prohibitive. By
incorporating visual and tactile alarms into these new MSHA-Approved
dosimeters, mine operators are afforded a whole new method for
controlling noise exposures and hearing loss. Quest is the first and only
company to manufacture MHSA-approved noise dosimeters capable of telling
a miner when they need hearing protection and when they have reached
their daily exposure limit. This capability allows mine operators to
apply administrative controls in applications where engineering controls
are impractical.
“We have enjoyed a long and successful relationship
with the U.S. Mining industry, both at the enforcement level and with the
mine operators. We are excited to be able to bring to them some
innovative technology that is supportive of both MSHA’s mission and the
mine operator’s needs,” said Dan Webster, CEO & President of Quest
Technologies.
The NoisePro Series and db-4000EZ dosimeters will be
on display at numerous trade shows around the world. See our
Events page for a complete
tradeshow listing.

November 2003
NEWS RELEASE: September 16, 2003
New Noise Dosimeters Receive ATEX & UL Intrinsic Safety Approval
Oconomowoc, Wisconsin (November 2003) – Effective July
1, 2003 many electronic safety and industrial hygiene instruments such as
noise dosimeters, sound level meters, gas detectors and other electronic
safety instrumentation were required to meet newer, more stringent
requirements in order to be approved for use in hazardous or potentially
hazardous environments within the member countries of the European Union.
These new requirements were enacted under the ATEX Directive. The ATEX
Directive voids all previously granted Ex and Eex approvals, requiring
manufacturers to resubmit their products for testing and re-approval to
the new standards in order to continue to claim intrinsically safe
operation. Changes in the intrinsic safety performance standards are
significant enough that many manufacturers are finding it necessary to
modify or redesign their products to meet the new requirements.
Quest Technologies announced today that the new
NoiseProTM Series of Quest dosimeters and db-4000EZ Metrosonics
dosimeters, which they introduced at AIHce 2003 in the United States, are
the first noise dosimeters in the world to be granted intrinsic safety
approvals in accordance with the ATEX Directive. Simultaneously, the
company received Underwriters Laboratories (UL) approval in accordance
with U.S. and Canada intrinsic safety requirements. Details on both the
Quest brand NoisePro Series and the Metrosonics brand db-4000EZ can be
accessed through the company's corporate web site portal located at
http://www.Quest-Technologies.com.
